It’s easy to forget with so much going on in the present and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but after only Steve Rogers and Carol Danvers, Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne were Earth’s first superheroes.

Of course, the typical Ant-Man and the Wasp you would first think of in the MCU would be Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, however they weren’t the first to do it. The originals were Hope’s parents, who inspired the tales to astonish all without truly revealing their own identities.

The reality of Ant-Man and the Wasp’s escapades has gone largely unexplored in the MCU as of yet, so it’s unknown just how many people the two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents saved, but, on the one mission we know about, the number shot straight into the millions immediately.

Hank and Janet were sent to disarm a Soviet bomb heading for the United States in 1987. Janet shrunk down to sub-atomic size to manoeuvre between the particles and destroy the bomb. This saved countless lives, but she had to sacrifice much of her life to do this. It doesn’t get much more heroic than that.
