"If it's in a word, or it's in a look, you can't get rid of the Babadook."

With Jennifer Kent's 2014 psychological horror film, so the iconic Babadook was born. This snappily-dressed grief metaphor infests the household of single mum Amelia (Essie Davies) and her horrible child Samuel (Noah Wiseman), both struggling to recover from the death of Sam's father. When the children's book 'Mister Babadook' mysteriously appears in their home, Amilia manifests the creature by reading the story aloud.

Derided by the 'not really horror' crowd for its slow pace, lack of jump scares and reliance on emotion over more real terrors, The Babadook regardless delivered a horror monster for the ages in... the Babadook.

However one feels about the movie, there's no denying that Mister Babadook looks incredible - a grinning, chilling, long-fingered, top-hatted nightmare. Once seen, never forgotten. If it's in a word, or it's in a look, you can't get rid of the Babadook.
