10 Greatest Monster Horror Movies Of The 2010s
6. Attack The Block
Before taking on the might of the Empire in Disney's new Star Wars trilogy, audiences were first introduced to John Boyega in the 2011 sci-fi horror film Attack the Block. Following in the wake of Shaun of the Dead, this British genre movie dropped an alien invasion down on a council estate in England, pitting hordes of invaders against the local ruffians.
Starring Boyega and the Doctor herself, Jodie Whittaker (here playing a nurse), Attack the Block is an incredible work of homespun sci-fi. Although the film (directed by Joe Cornish) is not without its share of comedy beats, both the action and the scares hit hard.
Cornish plays his alien invasion relatively straight, letting the young characters die hard at the slathering jaws of his beasts, and Boyega stretch his dramatic muscles. This he does so well that we can't help but feel robbed by how little Star Wars actually gave the actor to do once they'd acquired him.
