10 Greatest Monster Horror Movies Of The 2010s

7. A Quiet Place

Wolfcop 2014
Paramount Pictures

Jim from the Office delivered one of the century's best monster movies in A Quiet Place - the simple story of a family on the run from bloodthirsty beasts in a post-apocalyptic America. When the world is invaded by ultra-sensitive, ultra-dangerous aliens who hunt by sense of sound, the USA crumbles almost immediately. Tip-toeing through the rubble, Lee and Evelyn (John Krasinski and Emily Blunt) attempt to eke out some kind of life with their children. Tragedy strikes when their youngest is killed as the movie opens; matters further complicated by Evelyn's pregnancy.

Soulful ruminations on grief, guilt and fatherhood play out next to A Quiet Place's B-movie action - featuring nerve-shredding horror sequences, cathartic action, and a heart-breaking final act. With a nail, a staircase, and a bare foot, the film barely even needs its aliens. In A Quiet Place, John Krasinski proves himself to be far more than Just Jim From the Office.
