4. Citizen Kane

It's probably the most famous film ending of all time, and has been parodied so many times as a result, yet you cannot detract from the fact that it really is a fantastic ending to Citizen Kane. Viewers had been left wondering just what exactly "Rosebud" was, and it is theorized that it was something he couldn't get, or something he lost. When it is revealed that it was the name of a childhood sledge, from a time in his life when he was truly happy, we are left feeling sorry for Kane, particularly when the sled is tossed onto the furnace and burned, destroying the last vestige of happiness from Kane's life.
