10 Greatest Movie Opening Scenes Of All Time

3. Jaws

http://youtu.be/yrEvK-tv5OI This scene is single handedly responsible for why so many people even today are too scared to go swimming in the ocean, and probably is the main reason sharks have such bad press when in reality they hardly kill any human- dogs kill many more humans a year than sharks ever do. There aren't that many things I even remember as a child, and certainly not that many movies or movie scenes, but I do remember, at about the age of 5 watching Jaws for the first time (maybe I was a little to young) and this scene left a great impact on me that it is one of my very earliest memories. There is nothing more terrifying than the idea of being eaten to death, and the idea of being eaten to death at sea is unbearable. The real genius of this scene is in its subtlety. Jaws was and is such a great film because the audience very rarely saw the shark, and in this scene we don't even see a glimpse of it. Spielberg just uses a very simple yet one of the most iconic pieces of music in film history to signify the sharks approach, and the film is all the more thrilling for it. But this isn't quite Spielberg's greatest film opening however...

I am a recent Screenwriting for Film and Television graduate from the UK. I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E). My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future.
