10 Greatest R-Rated Comedy Films Of All Time

5. Pineapple Express

The token marijuana film. Be advised, if you have never had the pleasure to experience or come into contact with a stoner before, then the chances are that, whilst still enjoyable and amusing, much of this film will simply seem like idiotic people performing idiotic acts. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to suggest that you have to be a raging pot-head to appreciate a film about marijuana, but it does make it all the funnier if you know what you're looking for. Anyway, this 2008 stoner comedy from Judd Apatow featured regular collaborators Seth Rogen and Danny McBride, whilst the surprise inclusion was none other than typically hardcore dramatic actor, James Franco. The beauty of Franco, starring as Rogen's dealer, Saul, was in the unexpected hilarity of his performance. It is a testament to Franco's character that he was able to produce a display that was both lovable and convincing, but then, it is Franco. The film itself detailed the journey of Dale (Rogen) and Saul as they attempted to evade both a criminal drug lord and his rogue, corrupt female police officer, after having witnessed them murder a member of a rival Chinese drug gang; a definite must-see.
