4. Superbad
Arguably the film that redefined the tired, battered template of the R-Rated comedy. Featuring the 'new generation' of comedic actors, the film follows high schoolers Seth (Jonah Hill), Evan (Michael Cera) and Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) in their pursuit of booze, popularity and, ultimately, the possibility of scoring. The success of this film resided predominantly on the paradoxical nature of the characters' personalties. Seth's passive aggressive attitude was completely juxtaposed by Evan's quiet, reserved appearance, whilst the idiocy of Fogell's decision to assume the identity of McLovin, pretty much summed up the trio as a whole. Character crafting, coupled with some of the most intelligently comedic writing for some time, ensures that this film is unmissable for any fan of comedy; a genuine gut buster.
