10 Greatest Sci-Fi Movie Villains Of The 2020s (So Far)

9. Kano - Mortal Kombat

The Invisible Man
Warner Bros

Once again, it is important to recognise just how mind-numbingly stupid the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie is.

If you like films where people kick each other and go "Ahhhhhhhh!" for two hours, then you'll have a blast. If you enjoy literally anything other than that, then you're in for a rough time.

The highlight of the entire project has to be its version of Kano, played by Australian actor Josh Lawson. The mercenary goes on quite the journey across this movie, starting off as a villain before hinting at a transition to the good side and then totally turning back to the darkness again ahead of the final act.

He's tough, he's skilled, and he swears like a sailor; all of which makes for very enjoyable viewing against the utterly bland backdrop of the rest of the film.

The movie's main villain, Sub-Zero, is purely evil for the sake of it; there's nothing else to his role. Kano has some semblance of depth to him and his lude wise-cracks make him far more memorable than anyone else in the cast.

He's the absolute monster you can't help but love.

Aww.
