7. Roman Sionis - Birds Of Prey
Ewan McGregor just sort of feels like he's always been around.
It feels strange to imagine a time when he couldn't just walk into a movie and have the audience go, "Oh hey, Ewan McGregor's here." He's a great screen presence and proves this hands down with his role as the main evildoer in DC's Birds of Prey.
Also known as The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, Birds of Prey centres in on the titular character and her life after being dumped by the Joker. Ewan turns up as Roman Sionis, a ruthless crime boss also known as the Black Mask.
Black Mask isn't particularly unique - he's your typical "angry, powerful, well-connected criminal man" - but McGregor plays him so solidly that it's impossible not to be drawn in.
He's actually frightening, which is always a good place to start for a bad guy, and you fully believe he is capable of the atrocious acts he promises. Also, considering just how overblown some previous DC villains have been, it's nice to see a straightforward character played really well.
When it comes to portraying comic book villains in the 2020s, Ewan McGregor certainly has the high ground.
