1. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
2001: A Space Odyssey is a thought provoking, sublime and immortal film that ponders man's place in the universe and the future of the human species itself. Stanley Kubrick gave the world a movie that still polarizes opinions to this day but it also presents so many questions and genius moments that it is a joy to watch from the first minute until the final moments featuring the Starchild. The way that Kubrick handles the structure of the story gives the viewer a true sense of wonder to see how far man has come. 2001 has certainly become a cinematic enigma, at this point, because there are so many theories surrounding what it actually means. Every person who watches it can come away with a grasp of the story but a different meaning of the film which is remarkable whether that pertains to sci-fi or not. There is no grander film in existence and Kubrick's movie will live as long as cinema itself as a towering achievement.
