10 Greatest Sci-Fi Movies Of All Time

8. A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Clockwork Orange One of many masterpieces made by the brilliant Stanley Kubrick. A Clockwork Orange is a visceral film that is truly appalling yet you can't help but enjoy it immensely. The narrative is wisely delivered from the point of view of the film's grand anti-hero Alex DeLarge which gives everything a deeply unsettling feeling that adds a lot of shock and power to the movie. Alex is the most charmingly evil character to ever grace a cinema screen and Kubrick makes the viewer see the discrepancies within themselves by making Alex so charismatic that you can't help but love him. The society that is presented within A Clockwork Orange is one of the most horrifyingly realistic that Sci-Fi has to offer because it gives the viewer such detail, as Kubrick was notorious for going overboard with details, that it all feels too real yet surreal at the same time. Everything matches just close enough to society as it is now that it seems vaguely familiar but there is also a vicious undercurrent of totalitarianism being displayed that helps the film works as a cautionary tale as well as a portrait of one character.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
