10 Greatest Sci-Fi Movies Of All Time

7. District 9 (2009)

District 9 is not only an amazing entry into the canon of Sci-Fi but also one of the best political films ever made. The juxtaposition of the prawns as an allegory for the apartheid era in Southern Africa is balanced perfectly with the action/adventure plot of Wikus trying to find a cure for himself. The film is deeply moving in the most unusual ways. The audience is shown the inner workings of the prawn society and the poor condition in which they live so they become great sympathetic characters. The relationship between Wikus and the prawn Christopher is deeply moving and heartwarming which adds an extra layer of depth to the characters that really helps to elevate the suspense of the films ending. District 9's action scenes are elevated by, almost, documentary style camerawork that helps give the movie a sense of realism that very few Sci-Fi's can ever hope to achieve.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
