5. Evil Dead II

Evil Dead II is in many ways a remake of Sam Raimi's debut. After the flop that was Crimewave, Raimi returned to the movie that got everyone's attention and Evil Dead II is essentially a better version of the original. Raimi grabbed Bruce Campbell and went back into the woods and they ended up creating one of the greatest horror masterwork's of all time. The film turns its back to conventions as Raimi's innovative camerawork is emulated to this very day and the search for another great comedy-horror goes on. A key ingredient that makes Evil Dead II so great is its absurd and slapstick sense of humour. Whilst outrageously funny in its own right, the blood and gore and intense scares make the laughter that much more hysterical. Bruce Campbell's performance is one of the most revered in horror history and deservedly so as he is the heart and soul of the movie, making you laugh and scream in equal measure. Over 25 years on, Evil Dead II is still one of the most popular horror movies of all time, and rightly so as Sam Raimi's influence on the genre is monumental.
