7. The Big Lebowski

Jeff Bridges has given countless amazing performances throughout the years, yet perhaps none are as thoroughly iconic and purely entertaining as his role in The Big Lebowski, playing the ultimate stoner, The Dude.

An inspirational figure for many, he lives life by his own set of rules, but is one of the more thoughtful stoner characters on this list; shot through the typical tenacity we expect from The Coen Brothers, the film manages to be a classic stoner comedy and a complex, well-written work all at once - these two rarely go together.

John Goodman and Steve Buscemi provide excellent support, and the film has even inspired a "religion" of sorts; Dudeism, with the major pre-occupation being to just do what you want, namely going bowling. The Dude would most certainly abide.
