At the time of its release, Batman Begins wasn't just another reboot. During the millennium, the concept of a restarting a movie franchise barely existed. Because the previous adaptation of the Dark Knight involved ice puns and Bat-nipples, no one knew what to expect with Christopher Nolan's prequel.

Luckily, Batman Begins was such a masterpiece, it reinvigorated the franchise. Fans were blown away by Nolan's gritty retelling of DC's most popular superhero as well as Christian Bale's brutal portrayal as the titular character.

But the moment in Batman Begins that really got people talking was the final scene. After Batman puts an end to Ra's Al Ghul's evil, Gordon warns him that this is only the beginning of a new wave of crime. He then reveals a literal calling card of the latest serial killer. Batman flips it, revealing a Joker playing card.

At the time, Jack Nicholson was the definitive Joker. The idea that someone else was going to portray the Clown Prince of Crime was surreal. It may have come across as pure fan-service at the time, but after seeing Heath Ledger's performance as the demented clown in the sequel, this climax feels perfect.
