10 Greatest Villains From Otherwise Disappointing Movies
6. Elektra King - The World Is Not Enough
The Disappointing Movie: With characters like Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist and a villain with a bullet stuck in his brain, The World Is Not Enough was bogged down in its over-the-top nature, succumbing to the campier side of James Bond lore.
The Great Villain: Elektra King holds a special place in the Bond villain pantheon as the lone primary female villain in the series. Forget Rosa Klebb, the glorified henchwoman in From Russia With Love, because Elektra was calling the shots here. Yet, her character succeeds not just because she’s a novelty.
Her ruthlessness is matched by few villains in Bond's history. Her list of deeds includes orchestrating her father’s murder, manipulating an international terrorist to do her bidding and attempting to nuke Istanbul just to secure her oil pipeline.
The best part of this atypical Bond girl is the way she constantly subverts expectations. While she ostensibly has her father killed for reasons of revenge, there’s a practical motivation to inherit his fortune as well. There’s more that meets the eye to this femme fatale and the movie’s greatest success was turning this would-be disposable girl into a world-conquerer.
