10 Guillermo Del Toro Movies That Are Never Going To Happen
8. Pet Sematary
What is it? A redo of the 1983 Stephen King creepy zombie kid horror, previously adapted by Mega Python vs. Gatoroid helmer Mary Lambert back in 1989. Back in 2010, Del Toro put himself forward as director of a possible remake, then being penned by Halloween H20 writer Matt Greenberg, along with suggesting his interest in a new version of King's It. When a Pet Sematary remake was officially announced to coincide with the book's 30th anniversary at Halloween 2013, it was with 28 Weeks Later's Juan Carlos Fresnadillo in the director's chair. Fresnadillo has since dropped out and Del Toro, as recently as last October, suggested he would "kill to make it." Why won't it happen? Despite being linked to the film on various occasions across the last few years, Del Toro has never officially been connected with a new version of Pet Sematary. Back when he first discussed it in 2010, he suggested that he'd be too busy to work on the film in the near future and very little has changed on that count. Looking at the muted reception for Kimberley Pierce's Carrie remake and Cary Fukunaga's failure to get his version of It off the ground, it's possible that Stephen King remakes are just not something people are into right now. That's probably the reason why Paramount and Fresnadillo's version of Pet Sematary stalled in the first place, after all.
