10 Hardest-To-Watch Movie Scenes

3. Trainspotting - Baby

A drug fuelled foray into the world of a group of heroin addicts, Trainspotting is the Danny Boyle classic that depicts the decline of Renton (Ewan McGregor) and his pals as they struggle to balance life and sobriety. This balancing act, it would have it, isn't particularly successful, with stories of regression, death, and infection running rife from the outset.

Often coming left-wing but sadly very much aligned with the film's themes, Trainspotting sports a whole host of WTF moments, but none more so than discovering innocent baby Dawn has died. With screams echoing around the flat and all four men faced with the sight of the unmoving child, witnessing the dead baby is a tough pill to swallow - especially for secret father Sick Boy, who's visceral reaction indicates an emotional attachment he'd buried deep in the face of his heroin habit.

Whilst written and filmed with a dark humour underneath the tragic circumstances, it's this scene that casts all laughs aside and shows the true horrors of a life controlled by addiction. Nothing is quite as sad as seeing Dawn's traumatised mother begging for another hit after discovering her child's corpse.
