10 Harry Potter Movie Changes That Went Too Far
3. Ron's Stolen Lines
Taking Ron’s heroic attempted self-sacrifice (with a broken leg to boot) and offering the moment instead to Hermione as early as the series’ third film The Prisoner of Azkaban was a poorly thought out change, but it’s one which is indicative of a larger trend throughout the films.
Generally, where Hermione is smart and resourceful in the source novels, Ron is endlessly loyal and will offer up anything—including his life—to look after his friends.
In the films however, Hermione plays both the loyal and smart one, and as such there’s little left for Ron to do as the group’s side-lined third member, resulting in a frustratingly pointless character who Rupert Grint’s charming performance is wasted on.
