10 Hated Movie Characters That Were Written Out After Fan Backlash
2. Agent Myers - Hellboy (2004)
Agent Myers in Guillermo Del Toro's first Hellboy movie was meant as the audience's stand-in in the context of the movie. he allowed the characters and situations to be explained to someone who would be as clueless as the audience was to the world of Hellboy.
Beyond stealing Hellboy's girl, Liz, Myers never really does anything that makes him especially annoying, he just fails on one key point: he is boring. Having a human protagonist in a movie about monsters always runs the risk of creating a dull character, and Rupert Evans' Myers falls into that trap at every hurdle.
He doesn't do anything interesting, he's not funny and he has no superpowers. The only weapon at his disposal is his confused face, which he pulls out at every stop.
In The Golden Army, he doesn't make an appearance and is explained away in one line of dialogue saying he was transferred to Antarctica at Hellboy's request. While this is supposedly due to scheduling conflicts, his character was a let down for the first movie and it is likely that Del Toro didn't want to use a character that fans disliked again.
