10 Hated Movie Moments That Aren't As Bad As You Think

4. Ripley's Chestburster - Alien 3

The Hated Scene: Alien 3 is a rather unimaginative affair, retreading the original with a couple of twists; no guns, religious undertones, bald Ripley. It does have one genuinelly novel idea though; during the complications on the Sulaco, Ripley herself was impregnated with an Alien Queen. When the company arrives to try and take the xenomorph for their own evil deeds, she throws herself into molten metal, just as the alien bursts out her chest. The xenomorph popping out just before her death doesn't sit well with many fans, with the 2003 Assembly Cut removing any evidence of the chestburster. Why It's Not So Bad: There's something a lot more visually satisfying about the queen bursting out of Ripley and her caressing it as they both descend to their deaths than the ending presented in the Assembly Cut. Aside from the quadrupedal xenomorph closing down Ripley (smelling/sensing the embryonic alien inside) there's not much in the way of iconography in the film and this makes the film's most interesting scene (it's the only point where the overarcing plot of the series is actually moving forward) memorable. Given that this is the film that kills off three of the survivors from the previous movie, there's a lot more than this to get angry about.
