8. Cannibal Holocaust - Alan Yates
A group of documentary makers led by Alan Yates go to Amazonia to make a film about cannibals and are never heard of again. An anthropology professor launches an excursion into the rain forests to find out what happened to the crew. He retrieves some film footage, sits back and watches the horror unfold. Alan Yates is shown to be degenerate pervert who perpetrates acts of violence towards the natives - raping a native girl, torching the native's huts under the pretence that it was a rival cannibal tribe setting the huts ablaze - this is to get 'good' footage for the documentary. He has sex with girlfriend Fay in front of a group of young natives. My favourite moment in Cannibal Holocaust is when the crew stumble across a woman who has been impaled on a stick which enters her vagina and exits her mouth. Alan is being filmed as he looks upon the unfortunate woman, he has a disgusting, leering smile on his face, obviously getting off on it. Someone says 'Watch it Alan we're filming' and he instantly turns his face into one of shock and disbelief and starts yakking in earnest about how brutal and savage the natives are for this sort of violence. Ultimately, Alan's heinous deeds make the natives snap and snuff out him and his crew. But Alan Yates will forever be remembered by fans of Cannibal Holocaust as the degenerate who does not have a jot of sympathy or empathy for the people he is filming. He embodies all of the worst excesses of the Mondo movie and his heinous acts of violence prove to be fatal for himself. Seeing as he allegedly staged hideous acts of murder in his previous film The Last Road to Hell, it is fitting that we witness his death on camera in Cannibal Holocaust. It's an hubristic end for Alan
