10 Hidden Details In Movie Closing Scenes

2. Cloverfield - Something Makes A Splash

REY SECRET ORIGIN
Paramount Pictures

When Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams' Cloverfield first hit our screens back in 2008, fans were completely in awe at just how much was achieved by using the found footage technique to bring the monster flick to life.

Yet, many were still left puzzled by the film's odd final scene which comes after Rob and Beth are seemingly killed by the monster as the bridge they're hiding under crumbles onto them. This last clip shows the two chatting away whilst riding a ferris wheel, but don't be fooled by their idle chat as there's more than what meets the eye when it comes to this film ender.

If you focus on the right side of the frame when the camera is pointing out over the water, after you hear the beep of a stopwatch you'll notice an object fall from the sky and splash into the water.

This happens months before the events of the movie take place and it was later revealed that the falling object was in fact a Japanese satellite by the name of ChimpanzIII. Cloverfield's marketing campaign involved the creation of a website for a fictional Japanese company known as Tagruato and this site also confirmed that a piece of ChimpanzIII fell off into the Atlantic.

Unfortunately, this moment didn't reveal the specific origins of the terrifying monster but it's still an awesome detail which helped flesh out Abrams' Cloverfield universe.
