10 Hidden Details In Opening Horror Movie Scenes

8. Fulci's - Shaun Of The Dead

Slither Funeral Home
Universal Pictures

The entire name of this 2004 zom-rom-com (zombie romantic comedy) is a play on George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, so it shouldn't come a shock that there are other references to classic horrors in there.

The movie sees Simon Pegg's Shaun and his best friend Ed (Nick Frost) attempt to survive a zombie apocalypse by heading to their beloved Winchester pub and "waiting for it to all blow over".

Before the undead descend on London, Shaun's biggest problem is his relationship with girlfriend Liz. He's a slacker through and through, so naturally he forgets to book them a nice restaurant for their anniversary. But that doesn't mean he doesn't look through the phone book.

Whilst searching for a suitable eatery, he comes across a place called Fulci's, which markets itself as "The Place That Does All The Fish". The name is a nod to Italian director Lucio Fulci, who was renowned for his excessively gory horror output.

It's a neat little nod and one that you wouldn't notice if you weren't looking for it. Although Shaun did well to avoid that place - knowing what Fulci was like, it probably wouldn't have been salmon on his plate.
