10 Hidden Details That Make Horror Movies Even Scarier

3. It Follows - Who The Naked Man Really Is

The many shapes the monster in It Follows takes are scary because of how uncanny they are.

Generally speaking, there should be nothing too sinister about a random old woman or guy on the street, but the human apparitions that haunt hero Jay throughout the movie are just ever so slightly distorted, be it through misshapen eyes or animalistic snarls, that they become terrifyingly otherworldly.

However, one standout scare involving a naked man on a roof watching Jay drive away gains an extra level of spookiness if you were paying attention to a particular portrait that gets a brief close up.

The movie briefly shows you a family picture of Jay and her grandparents and, lo and behold, the naked man on the roof just happens to be a butt-naked version of her grandfather.

There have been SO many theories stemming from this, with viewers wondering if there was a dark secret in this family history. Even without these though, the fact the monster would appear as a family member so explicitly adds an extra uncomfortable edge to this scare.
