10 Hidden Gem Indie Horror Movies You MUST Watch
1. The Innocents
In this Norwegian drama, a young girl called Ida moves into the suburbs with her autistic sister, Anna. When Ida discovers the local children harbour superpowers, she finds herself enthralled by them. Sadly, it isn't long before the children's abilities create an irreversible conflict between them.
Although the concept sounds similar to Chronicle, The Innocents is anything but a rip-off. In fact, it's the perfect movie to cleanse the palette of anyone suffering from superhero fatigue. Though the story is entrenched in comic book lore, The Innocents offers a refreshing take rarely seen in the medium.
Though the children enjoy experimenting with their powers, they aren't emotionally mature enough to understand morality or consequences. Ironically, this approach makes some of the kids' questionable actions more unsettling than if they were deliberately behaving maliciously.
Anyone who wants to give The Innocents a shot must know it's not for the faint of heart. Not only does the movie contain sickening gore and cruel violence, seeing the children being manipulated and playing mind-games with each other is anything but pleasant.
The Innocents is worth checking out, but don't say we didn't warn you.
