10 Hidden Horror-Comedy Movies That Are Actually Terrifying

8. Psycho Goreman (2020)

Housebound movie
Shudder

The streaming wars are the biggest thing happening to TV at the moment, and one of the most unexpected contenders in the battle is the horror-centric VOD service Shudder. They've had some banging flicks on the platform, but one of the biggest crowning glories is this bonkers sci-fi action horror comedy.

Psycho Goreman tells the story of a brother/sister duo who accidentally discover a gem that gives them control of a deadly (and terrifying) alien warrior, who they dub Psycho Goreman - PG for short. The sister forces PG to do her bidding until extra-terrestrial threats come for them all.

It's easy to see the fun in this film if you love a good spot of sci-fi schlock. It is entirely self-aware, playing up to the absurd concept with full glee. This leads to an utterly bombastic experience filled to the brim with comedy, violence and surprisingly dense world-building.

The highlight of the film really is PG, though, as this alien monster is brought to life with some spectacular practical effects - as are all the other aliens in the movie. It's clearly a cheap flick, but it hides it so well thanks to the colourful style and luscious monster designs.
