8. Sucker Punch
Anyone who has seen Sucker Punch might well wonder why it is featuring on this list - after all, the film is little more than a teenage boy's wish fulfilment fantasy in which scantily-clad sexy women fight it out in a variety of abstracted scenarios. The actual concept - still barely bubbling away beneath the surface gloss and spectacle - could have been explored far more effectively. The idea of a woman escaping from a mental institution, slipping into layered fantasy worlds along the way, had all the potential for a David Lynch-style exercise in psychological scrutiny. Director Zack Snyder hardly has a track record as a cerebral filmmaker so perhaps the fact that Sucker Punch fell short of exploring the possibilities in the concept was to be expected - Snyder is, frirst and foremost, an accomplished visual stylist.
