10 Highest-Grossing Movies Of 2015 (So Far) - Ranked From Worst To Best

7. San Andreas

Despite his status as one of the most popular and likeable stars in Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson has often struggled to see his movies do strong box office business outside of his work in established franchises. However, all of that changed with the release of San Andreas, which gave the actor the biggest hit of his career outside of the Fast And Furious series.

On paper, the movie looked like the kind of effects-laden disaster porn that Roland Emmerich could churn out in his sleep and while San Andreas isn't a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, it does provide a satisfying two hours of blockbuster entertainment. The plot and characters are as cliched as you would expect from a big-budget flick that sells itself almost entirely on the set-pieces but top-quality visual effects, plenty of massive-scale destruction and a charismatic leading man just about elevate the final product above mediocrity.

San Andreas opened above expectations with a $54.6m debut weekend, and has held well both domestically and overseas in the three weeks since its release. With a worldwide total already north of $375m, director Brad Peyton's movie has a real shot at reaching the half-billion dollar mark by the end of its theatrical run.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
