10 Highest-Grossing Movies Of 2015 (So Far) - Ranked From Worst To Best
6. Cinderella
Disney's trend of remaking their classic animated fairy tales in live action has brought huge commercial success, as well as leading to the announcement that more of the studio's 2D features are set to receive the same treatment, and the winning streak continued with the release of Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Cinderella.
Branagh continued his unlikely transition into the director of studio blockbusters with an assured take on the material, opting for a straightforward approach to the story that resulted in a charmingly old-fashioned and traditional fairy tale, backed by some stunning production design and a scene-stealing Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother.
Cinderella was another box office smash hit for the Mouse House, opening at the top of the domestic box office with a debut weekend of $67.9m, with the movie's worldwide total now over $530m. Unsurprisingly given how lucrative the sub-genre has turned out to be, Disney was quick to announce live-action versions of Beauty and the Beast, Pinocchio, Dumbo and Mulan were all in active development.
