10 Highest-Grossing Movies Of 2017 (So Far) - Ranked From Worst To Best
7. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
The highest compliment that can be paid to the fifth installment in the rapidly-sinking Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is that it wasn't as bad as the last one. While Dead Men Tell No Tales has earned $708.8m and counting at the box office, it is well on course to be the lowest-earning entry in the series since Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003.
Essentially a thinly-veiled remake of the first movie, two young love interests must reluctantly team up with Captain Jack Sparrow and his motley crew of quirky pirates to reach a MacGuffin before an army of ghost pirates that have history with Jack. Sound familiar?
Although there are some inventive action scenes and decent banter between the characters, the third act descends into typical overblown CGI nonsense and the dense plot fails to make proper use of a talented cast, despite the presence of Javier Bardem as an angry zombie pirate thing.
