10 Highest-Grossing Movies Of 2017 (So Far) - Ranked From Worst To Best

6. Beauty and the Beast

Disney's live-action updates of their animated classics continues to be a license to print money, with Beauty and the Beast now the tenth highest-grossing movie ever after raking in over $1.25bn at the box office.

Bill Condon's movie is great to look at, with great costumes and production design to go along with some impressive visual set-pieces, but falls short when it comes to story. At 45 minutes longer than the 1991 animated version, plenty of narrative beats are either extended or created entirely and they don't always work, while much of it feels just a little too familiar and doesn't bring anything new to the table.

However, the cast are clearly having fun and the songs remain catchy despite the noticeable use of Auto-Tune. While it may not be the most daring or original summer blockbuster out there, Beauty and the Beast nonetheless ticks all of the required boxes as enjoyable family-friendly entertainment.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
