The Dark Knight Joker

Considering the hype that came about as an inevitable side-effect of Marvel and Sony cutting an unprecedented deal to share the movie rights of Spider-Man, the wall-crawler's homecoming to the MCU was a stunning achievement.

Not only did it meet expectations (and hopes), but it also did so without jumping the shark or going for the easy wins. Instead of a Green Goblin-focused plot (again), we got Michael Keaton's excellent Vulture. There was no hint of Venom, and no real fan-baiting at all. And most importantly, Tom Holland's Spider-Man has a very reasonable claim to being the best ever on screen. He had the right blend of snark and charm, and he's the kind of kid you want to spend more time with.

Hopefully the deal can be expanded, so we get more MCU Spidey appearances, because on the strength of this showing, Sony should be grateful for Marvel's expert assistance.
