10 Highly Questionable Actions Committed By Jack Sparrow
4. He Makes A Deal With Beckett
"It's just good business." Jack has two motivations throughout the entire franchise, that drive his every action: he wants to sail the seas forever, and he wants to do it on the Black Pearl. Most of what drives the second and third film is Jack's desire to kill and replace Davy Jones, and in the fourth film he searches for the Fountain of Youth (more on that in a minute). Jack constantly betrays and backstabs everyone around him in order to retake his role as captain of the Pearl, the biggest example of this being his deal with Lord Beckett in At World's End. The film is chock-full of double crossings so it's all a bit hard to keep straight, but basically Jack is taken aboard Beckett's ship, and the two have a long discussion about what to do. Beckett wants to find Shipwreck Cove to attack the pirate lords, and Jack, of course, wants the Pearl. Later on we find out that this was part of Jack and Will's plan to get Jack onto the Flying Dutchman in order to take Jones' heart, but the fact that Jack makes the deal with Beckett is pretty questionable. What if his plan to get onto the Dutchman failed? He would have led Beckett (and his entire fleet) to Shipwreck Cove before the pirate lords would have had time to formulate a plan. I know Jack always thinks one step ahead, but sooner or later that might not work as well as he hopes...
