10 Hilarious Behind The Scenes Facts About The Worst Movies Ever

6. Skyline Is Basically A Giant Special Effects Reel

If you watched the 2010 sci-fi film Skyline and felt like it was all just a giant special effects show, you're not wrong. That's almost by definition what the film was.

Most of Skyline involves the characters standing around looking out the windows of their apartment as the actual interesting things are happening in the distance. It's kind of a baffling movie because the special effects look incredible, but then all of the human parts seem hastily thrown together in an afternoon with no production value at all.

And that's basically because yes, the directors cared almost entirely about the special effects and barely cared about the other scenes at all. Supposedly, the on set production budget was only $500,000, whereas between $10-20 million was spent on the special effects.

In fact the directors, The Brothers Strause, were special effects artists first, having previously worked on Battle: Los Angeles. The brothers actually even got sued by Sony because they were working on a special effects driven alien movie to compete with Battle: LA while they were working on Battle: LA.

So when you look at the movie as being directed by two visual effects artists who spent almost the entire budget on the CGI and almost none on anything else, the horrid nature of the finished product makes a lot more sense.
