10 Hilarious Star Wars: The Force Awakens Parody Trailers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsM7LTneKNc Sure, the original Star Wars trilogy is an €œinfluential classic€ or whatever, but perhaps it's superseded by the things it inspired? All that aforementioned creative fan work, the recently jettisoned Expanded Universe, and Mel Brooks's slightly-naff-but-still-a-cult-hit 1987 comedy Spaceballs, which swapped out Han Solo for Bill Pullman as Captain Lone Starr, Rick Moranis as Lord Dark Helmet instead of Darth Vader (with a headpiece that was somehow even more unwieldy), and Dom DeLuise as the voice of Pizza the Hutt. It was never sophisticated humour, admittedly, but man it was fun when you were 12-years-old and watching it soon after you saw Star Wars for the first time. Hoping to return audiences to that rose tinted moment in the same way that The Force Awakens calls on similar imagery from the original trilogy to stoke a sense of nostalgia, one internet wizard quickly cobbled together Spaceballs: The Force Awakens, a trailer that takes all of its cues from the new Star Wars preview - opening with a black Stormtrooper on a desert planet (albeit this time literally combing for clues), the reveal of a lightsaber (only this time the phallic weapon extends from Rick Moranis's crotch) - and works surprisingly well. Worryingly well, even.
