5. Crazy Lens Flare Edition
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPuUiENIuPI J.J. Abrams seems like the right man for the job when it comes to returning Star Wars to its former glory. Despite shanghaiing audiences with the climax of Lost, and his slavishly Spielbergean Super 8 not really living up to expectations, he's done a decent job at introducing a whole new generation to Star Trek - even if Into Darkness left a little to be desired - and he's shown himself to a passionate, competent filmmaker who can wrangle multi-million dollar blockbusters into a cohesive whole. Who better to entrust with Star Wars, then? Other than Rian Johnson, obviously. Still, for all his selling points, Abrams does have his quirks which could just as easily sink Star Wars the way that George Lucas's did his prequel trilogy. J.J. has an unfortunate penchant for mystery boxes, casting that policeman from Heroes in everything, and lens flares. He bloody loves lens flares. Even when they don't make any sense. Like, for example, the glittering array that frequently blind the deck of the Starship Enterprise. He even managed to sneak one into the Millenium Falcon doing loops, but based on the above? It could've been oh so much worse.
