3. Katie Holmes - Batman Begins
As a writer here at WhatCulture.com has
previously pointed out, Christopher Nolan isn't the greatest writer-director on the planet when it comes to paying enough attention to his female characters. Often simplistic and underwritten, they sometimes get left by the wayside - you could argue that this is inevitable on account of his often masculine-driven premises and style, but it nevertheless remains a fact that women don't have too much to work with in his movies. This can certainly be said for the character of Rachel Dawes as played by Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, but in her case a more padded character development would have done little to alleviate her dry and uninspiring performance. Holmes is another actress who often appears to be chosen more for her looks than her talent - like Daryl Hannah, her performance in Batman Begins earned Holmes a nomination from the Golden Raspberry Awards, a (dis)honour she managed to avoid. Katie Holmes's replacement for the role in the sequel The Dark Knight was Maggie Gyllenhaal - many fans dispute whether or not she turned out any better.
