9. Apollo Creed Vs Ivan Drago (Rocky IV)

There is a horrible moment in this fight where Apollo Creed realises his punches aren't doing a thing against the 6€5 Soviet monster Ivan Drago. My stomach lurched with Creed when it first dawns on him that he is totally mismatched. No matter how hard he hits, Drago doesn€™t flinch. All the while Creed himself is taking an absolute pounding. Having come into the bout in rather cocksure fashion, draped in the flag of the United States and dancing to the ring the mood beforehand €“ to James Brown, no less €“ is light and a little comical. Creed is presented as being overconfident and we think he will inevitably end up with egg on his face. Things take a grim turn however and Creed is literally beaten to death in the ring. I know the Rocky franchise is a bit cheesy, but this is an incredibly dark moment. Drago is portrayed as a monster after dismantling the former champ in almost no time at all.
