5. The Narrator Vs Angel Face (Fight Club)
God this scene was hard to watch. Angel Face, played by heart-throb and photobomber extraordinaire Jared Leto is on the wrong end of a tonking at the hands of our psychopathic narrator. This fight starts out like any other Fight Club scrap, but it isnt long before a grim hush falls over the braying crowd, who realise it has gone too far but are too afraid to step in and stop it. . It doesnt take long for this to stop being a fight and I think I looked away when Angel Face becomes motionless and still the blows dont stop. The noises are utterly horrible. Lets get this straight, Jared Leto, is an incredibly (and annoyingly) attractive man. He is perfect for this character, because his good looks provide such a stark and harrowing contrast to how The Narrator actually leaves his face. Swollen, bloody, bruised and near-toothless. Up until this point, for all its moral flaws, Fight Club had been presented as having a certain camaraderie. Where misfits and outcasts could go to find solace in violence and each other. I wanted to destroy something beautiful are the words which end this and send the film on its darker spiral.
