10 Hilariously Recut Trailers That Completely Change The Movie

9. The Shining - Romantic Comedy

One of the earliest and best recut trailers came thanks to a contest held by the Association of Independent Creative Editors. It was created by Robert Ryang from the editorial house PS 260 and became an instant internet hit. No longer Stanley Kubrick's masterful horror movie, Ryang reimagined the movie as a family comedy-drama, with Peter Gabriel's lively song Solsbury Hill setting the tone for light-hearted hijinxs and familial reconciliation. There's even the classic voice over for extra effect, harking back to a kind of trailer no longer produced these days. Robert Ryang's comedy recut of The Shining's trailer kick-started the trailer re-cutting phenomenon - wouldn't it be fun to find someone who's never heard of it, show them this trailer then get them to watch the actual film? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmkVWuP_sO0
