3. Stanley Kubrick Faked The Moon Landings (Amongst Other Things)
Gun wielding and screaming lines from his film Full Metal Jacket as he chased paparazzi of his property, his inherent fear of flying, spraying his grounds with insecticide to rid his property of intruders - Kubrick the recluse became a target of the press of the UK when he moved there, a group he spent much of his later life trying to avoid. The biggest myth surrounding the late great director was that as he hit the big time, Kubrick was picked by NASA to fake the Apollo 11 moon landing. Eager to beat the Russians to the moon, America simply didnt have the technology to land on the moon, but believed its very own dream factory; Hollywood, had all the power to create it from the ground up.
True? Many people believe that the moon landing was faked to spare the blushes of America, and a small handful of people honestly think that one of the best directors to live was a part of it. In fairness to the conspiracy, if you were going to fake the moon landing who else could pull it off as realistically as Kubrick? (See 2001 for further evidence of his technical pizazz) For other crack-pot theories on Kubrick and specifically hidden messages in The Shining - including one that 'proves' he helped out on space fakery via an Apollo 11 jumper and a room key - check out the wonderfully bonkers (and equally frustrating) documentary from last year; 'Room 237.'
