The Blair Witch Project Put this down to audience naivete and the creative genius of the guys in charge of marketing the phenomenally successful The Blair Witch Project above all else. One of the best-executed and most famous viral marketing stunts of all time saw the posters for the inaugural found footage flick suggesting that the events of the film were 100% real, and that the three leads were missing. Long before the days of Paranormal Activity, audiences weren't so wise to the power of viral advertising, and so were duly suckered into this admittedly superbly-played bout of movie myth-making. Ok, so maybe we don't believe it now - anyone over the age of 12 will laugh off even the most convincing viral marketing - yet it's a perfect example of how to do a lot with limited resources but a vast imagination.
