While critical opinions on this film were fairly average, audience response skyrocketed it to popularity; just look at its spot on the IMDb top 250 films of all time list.
Richard Gere starred in this 2009 remake of a 1987 Japanese film Hachikō Monogatari, adapting the classic Japanese tale of the loyal Akita Hachikō for a Western audience.
