10 Hollywood Stars That Let Instant Success Go To Their Heads

7. Mo'Nique

Early Success Mo'nique didn't really have early success. Starting out as a stand-up comedian, she landed minor parts in a series of rom-coms that eventually landed her a meatier role in the movie Precious - a low-key, low-budget film which told the harrowing true story of a child abuse case in America. Little was expected of the film but it slowly gained critical attention and made a good profit at the box office. Mo'Nique's performance was highly regarded and, in a shock result, she took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress that year. What Happened Next? Precious was released in 2009 and Mo'Nique didn't work again until 2014. She penned an essay this year suggesting the reason her work dried up was because she refused to 'play the game', resulting in her being 'blackballed' by the Hollywood community. However her director on the film Lee Daniels and lead actress Gabourey Sidebe both responded with contradictory versions of events. Sidebe said via Twitter, "It's sad to see a project like Precious, that was made with such love, be dragged through the mud by selfishness and lies". Two sides to every story, but many have argued Mo€™Nique felt entitled to any role she wanted after the surprise success of her Oscar win.
