10 Hollywood Stars You Didn't Know Began Their Career In Soap Operas

1. Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio might not have as much net worth as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie combined, but sitting on a fortune somewhere in the region of $220 million probably softens the blow somewhat. Whether or not you think that actors just might be a little overpaid, the combined gross of DiCaprio's movies suggests the investment is well worth it. After starting out his career like so many other struggling actors, appearing in commercials, DiCaprio landed roles in a number of television programs including the popular soap Santa Barbara for NBC Studios as Mason Capwell. A supporting role in the drama What's Eating Gilbert Grape? at the tender age of 19 ensured a move away from television and onto the big screen. DiCaprio has yet to pick up an Academy Award for Best Actor, despite delivering a range of now-iconic performances in movies like Romeo + Juliet and The Wolf Of Wall Street. It's quite possible that his performance in the upcoming film The Revenant could change that - director Alejandro González Iñárritu has been something of a good luck charm for actors of late. What other huge Hollywood stars began their careers working on soap operas? Why not let us know in the comments below?
