3. Re-Animator (Stuart Gordon 1985)
After being involved in strange experiments at a Med School in Zurich, Herbert West (Jeffrey Coombs) flees and arrives at Miskatonic University in New England and rents a room from med student Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott). West sets up a lab in the basement and develops his serum that is able to bring dead bodies back to life. As we have seen from the other entries on the list, this is never a good idea. The Re-Animator is based on the short story by H.P. Lovecraft which was serialized in 1922. It is one of the first times that re-anitmating corpses into moving bodies was used in fiction. This movie has some of the most zombies in one scene on the list. They are violent and animalistic but do not feed on humans. For example, one of the zombies has a desire for the Dean's daughter...and not in the typical fashion of a zombie. This is also the only movie on the list that the zombies are brought to life by technology.
