10 Horrendously Inaccurate Depictions Of Technology In Movies

8. Computer Hacking - Hackers

Hackers The 1990s were by far the worst period for technological inaccuracy in movies, likely because computers were slowly edging into the mainstream, yet had not been adopted by the majority of people. Hence, we got thoroughly ridiculous movies like Hackers, which attempted to depict the rather mundane activity of breaking into computers as a cool, sexy video game. One can appreciate that in the mid-90s, audiences likely didn't have much patience for watching characters typing reams of code, but this film's visualisation of hacking - that the hackers must circumnavigate gigantic virtual skyscrapers that contain all the information - is hilariously off-the-rails. It's a totally inane user interface that would make no practical sense to anyone using the system for a legal purpose, and makes the film seem woefully - if amusingly - dated.
