Tom Savini is one of the masters of special effects. He has worked on very famous horror films such as Friday the 13th, Dawn Of The Dead, Creepshow, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. However, he has also worked on some lesser known movies, to which 1981’s Rosemary’s Killer (Also known as The Prowler in the U.S) is one of them, but it’s also the most horribly realistic Tom Savini ever got with special effects.

Rosemary’s Killer itself is a standard and very underwhelming 80s slasher movie, but the effects are absolutely sickening. It’s not just the amount of blood and gore on display, but rather the attention to detail that makes it horrifying. The worst of which is a scene where an unsuspecting victim is stabbed in the head.

It’s not just a quick stab and then done like other slasher movies, but the scene plays out in a prolonged sequence of the bayonet impaling the poor lad through his head, coming out of his neck, to which he starts to spasm; his eyes roll back to the back of his head as his hands go limp, before he finally dies. It’s one of the most effective death scenes ever seen in a slasher movie, and it’s definitely Tom Savini’s most powerfully realistic work.

Shame that such great effects came with such an underwhelming movie, but that particular scene stands out for its realistic brutality.
